Club Callsigns

RAFARS Operates a number of Club Callsigns. Details of these are shown Below

G8FC

This callsign is normally located at the Royal Air Force Amateur Radio Society Headquarters located at Royal Air Force Cosford, Wolverhampton. England.
It was first licensed in 1935 to the Cranwell Amateur Transmitting Society (CARTS), located at Royal Air Force Cranwell. The name of the Society was changed in 1938 to the Royal Air Force Amateur Radio Society (RAFARS). In 1951 the society moved from Royal Air Force Cranwell to Royal Air Force Locking and in 1999, to Royal Air Force Cosford (now DCAE Cosford). The society's Headquarters therefore has always been at No. 1 Radio School. G8FC is currently active on HF, CW and SSB and has recently ventured into SSTV and RTTY. VHF operation normally uses the callsign G8RAF.
 

G8RAF

This Callsign is normally located at the Royal Air Force Amateur Radio Society Headquarters at DCAE Cosford, Wolverhampton, England. G8RAF is normally used for microwave operation.
 

GB2RAF

This callsign is located at the Royal Air Force Air Defence Museum, Royal Air Force Neatishead, Norfolk, NR12 8YB, England. It is licensed by a Letter of Variation from the Radio Society of Great Britain as a permanent special event station. The parent callsign is G8FC. Its first operational day was 8th September 2001.

GB2RAF

 GB2RAF permanent Special Event Station operating /P on the grass outside the shack as a radio field vehicle demonstration station. This was set up and operated for the Friends of the Museum Annual Meeting on the 27th September 2003 by Rex G0CLR, Alex 2E1EIV and Terry G4PSH.
 

G3RAF

G3RAF is the callsign of the Royal Air Force Amateur Radio Society Council Group. It is operated by Council Members only. It is intended that it will be rotated between suitably licensed Council Members and may be used for special event purposes throughout the United Kingdom.
 

VP8RAF

VP8RAF may be used by any member visiting the South Atlantic, providing approval has been obtained from the Society Special Events Callsign Co-ordinator. Normally, operation is from the radio club at Mount Pleasant Airfield, Falkland Islands.
